Marianne Williamson is a writer, a spiritual leader, and a person who works to change the world. She has written 14 books, four of which were #1 bestsellers on the New York Times list.
She also started a charity called Project Angel Food, which has brought more than 14 million meals to be sick and dying people at home since 1989. The group was put together to help people who HIV-AIDS hurt.

Williamson has also worked on issues like poverty, ending hunger, and getting people of different races to get along. In 2014, she ran as an independent candidate for the 33rd congressional district in California in the US House of Representatives. She did not win.
On January 9, 2019, she said she would run for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States in 2020. She stopped running for office on January 10, 2020. After stopping her campaign, she backed Senator Bernie Sanders for the White House.

On July 8, 1952, Marianne Williamson was born in Houston, Texas. She was the youngest of Samuel Williamson and Sophie Ann Kaplan’s three children. Samuel was a veteran of World War II and an immigration lawyer. Sophie was a homemaker and helped out in the community.
She went to Bellaire High School in the Houston ISD. After she graduated, she went to Pomona College in Claremont, California, for two years to study theatre and philosophy. She stopped going to college in 1973 and moved around a lot during what she calls her “worst decade.”

In 1979, Williamson was married briefly to a businessman from Houston. She said that the wedding only lasted a minute and a half. In 1990, she had a daughter named India Emmaline. Williamson is the first major Democrat to say he will run for president in 2024.
