Controve*rsial influencer and former kickboxer Andrew Tate’s appeal to avoid serving 30 days in a Romanian jail facility was denied.
Tate, his brother Tristan, and two Romanian female suspects were all detained by the Romanian anti-organized crime agency DIICOT last month while a criminal investigation into an alleged rap*e, people trafficking, and the formation of an organized crime gang was being conducted. On December 30 of the previous year, the four suspects all objected to the prosecutor’s decision to extend their detention orders.
In a document outlining the judge’s justification for the suspects’ 30-day detention, it is stated that the possibility that the suspects “leave Romania and settle in countries that do not allow extradition” cannot be discounted. The Tate brothers have denied any wrongdoing through their attorney Eugen Vidineac.
The brothers appeared shackled together as they entered court on Tuesday, claiming there wasn’t enough evidence to convict them. Prosecutors requested that the brothers’ imprisonment be extended for up to 180 days while they look into the alleged crimes.
With his views on society and women, which are frequently referred to as “dangerous” and “misogynistic,” Tate has attained previously unheard-of levels of internet celebrity over the past year. Tate’s online persona might not be a true reflection of who he is in reality, according to Mr. Vidineac, who asserts that it cannot be “used as evidence in a criminal trial.”
According to the lawyer, no investigation files have been made available to his legal team. According to Mr. Vidineac, the criminal investigation file has not yet been made available to us, preventing us from successfully defending our clients, according to an interview that was translated and posted on Tate’s Twitter account.
“In this regard, I would like to draw attention to the fact that, at least from this perspective, I am equally astounded that there is not a single piece of evidence—aside from the victim’s statement—that suggests that a rap*e crime was committed.
“In my opinion, there is no evidence to support the development of a reasonable suspicion regarding the commission of crimes covered by and subject to criminal law. We are discussing organized crime and human trafficking in this instance.
Prosecutors in Romania seized from the four accused 15 high-end cars, as well as more than ten homes and properties. Authorities allegedly found two girls who claimed they were being held against their will; the Tate brothers were reportedly interrogated at that time as well. The brothers were let go while the investigation was still going on. After conducting computer searches, police removed numerous electronic devices from their homes.
