Boxing icon George Foreman filed a countersuit on Monday against a woman called Gwen H, accusing her of being sexually assaulted 45 years ago when she was a teenager.
George Foreman, who is he?
American author, businessman, priest, and former professional boxer George Edward Foreman was born on January 10, 1949. Between 1967 and 1997, he participated in boxing under the ring name “Big George.” He holds two heavyweight world championships and an Olympic gold. As the creator of the George Foreman Grill, he is best known.
After having a difficult upbringing, Foreman started boxing as an amateur and won the heavyweight gold medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics. He became a professional the next year, and in 1973 he defeated Joe Frazier in a thrilling second round to win the heavyweight championship.
Before losing to Muhammad Ali in the historic Rumble in the Jungle in 1974, he successfully defended the title twice. Foreman retired in 1977 after losing to Jimmy Young and not being given the opportunity to defend his belt again.
After having what he called a “religious experience,” Foreman was ordained as a Christian preacher. He declared his comeback ten years later, and in 1994, at the age of 45, he overcame Michael Moorer, who was 26 years old, to capture the combined WBA, IBF, and lineal heavyweight titles.
The final major title Foreman has held was renounced after a single IBF title defense on June 28, 1995. He was the oldest heavyweight champion in the world at 46 years and 169 days old.
Foreman is the second-oldest boxer in any weight class, after Bernard Hopkins, and the oldest fighter to ever win a world heavyweight title (at light heavyweight). With a 76-win (68 knockout) and 5-loss record, he retired in 1997 at the age of 48.
Both the World Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame include Foreman as a member. According to the International Boxing Research Organization, Foreman is the eighth-best heavyweight of all time.
In 2002, The Ring listed him as one of the top 25 boxers of the previous 80 years. He ranks as the eighth-best puncher of all time, according to The Ring. He worked as a ringside analyst for HBO’s boxing program from 1998 through 2004. His promotion of the George Foreman Grill, which has sold more than 100 million units globally, has made him a successful entrepreneur. In 1999, he traded the grill’s commercial rights for $138 million.
