Nigerian singer Skiibii has released a brand new project titled “Life of a King (Aiye Oba)” which consist 4 solid tracks with no features.
In the years following a controversial prank about his death, he revamped his image as a legitimate hitmaker, dazzling with songs like “Sensima” and “Daz How Star Do”.
The success of those tracks led to the arrival of 2021’s God Is Bigger Than Man, a revelatory dispatch that distilled his beliefs, hopes and moods into a rich fusion of hip-hop and Afrobeats.
“Baddest Boy”, that album’s breakout single, earned a remix featuring Davido, followed by the runaway hit single “Kilo”, a collaboration with street-pop rookie T.I Blaze.
Never one to stand still, Skiibii (Abbey Toyyib Elias) makes a departure from the hollowed-out introspection of God Is Bigger Than Man on his 2022 project, Life of a King (Aiye Oba). Here, he settles into the mindset of a king, doing away with contradictions and self-doubt.
Hints of Skiibii’s new energy abound across the EP’s four tracks. There is a bit of regal pompousness on “Bobo” as the singer gently whispers over shimmery production by Niphkeys.
Tiwa Savage adds stardust to romantic thriller “Wife Am”. And the hypnotic guitar riffs of “Kelele” add gloss to the singer’s colourful lyrics.
