Nigerian singer Wizkid and his collaborator Tems have won the American Music Awards (AMA) 2022 for Favorite R&B Song with the global hit ‘Essence’.
Congratulations are in order as starboy Wizkid picks up yet another international award for his global hit song ‘Essence’. The Starboy honcho wins yet another award two years after he released the ‘Made In Lagos’ album.
Wizkid and Tems were earlier nominated for the Favorite R&B Song award at the AMA 2022 and went on to win the category. In deed, ‘Essence’ has been huge in America after becoming a multi-platinum single selling millions of units in America.
The other songs nominated in the category include Beyonce’s ‘BREAK MY SOUL’, Muni Long with ‘Hrs And Hrs’, Silk Sonic (Bruno Mars & Anderson Paak) “Smokin Out The Window” and SZA “I Hate U”
Meanwhile, the music starboy also won the Favorite Afrobeats Artiste award at the AMAs, which held on Monday, November 21 2022 at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles.
The ‘Bad To Me‘ crooner competed with Nigerian counterparts, Burna Boy, Tems, Ckay and Fireboy DML.
Furthermore, Wizkid was congratulated in a post on the official Twitter page of the AMAs, writing;
“Congrats @wizkidayo !!!! You are taking home the FIRST Favorite Afrobeats Artist award! #AMAs 🎶”
Reacting to the news, the Starboy quoted the tweet with love emojis and his bird insignia.
The American Music Awards is offered in recognition of the most popular artistes and music within the eligibility period of September 24, 2021, through September 22, 2022.
